Korea loves fusion. If you go to pretty much any restaurant in the city, you’ll know what I mean. The downside to this is that you often lose the authenticity and are left with an awful concoction of things that just do not belong together. But on the flip side, you have more choices and variety. And in Pan Asia, the fusion works. Serving a different array of Thai, Vietnamese, and Singaporean dishes, you can get your fix Southeast Asian food at one spot.

For starters, we ordered the Sizzling Shrimp (14,500won). The succulent shrimp were dressed with a spicy chili sauce that goes hand in hand with the steamed buns. Seriously, you cannot leave out the steamed buns (3,000won for 5 buns). It is the peanut butter to the jelly, the cheese to the macaroni, the ketchup to the french fries…you get the picture. It looked amazing even from the photo on the menu, but lo and behold, as it made its grand entrance, our mouths dropped as we all scrambled for our phones to capture this glorious moment. This, as well, should be enjoyed with the steam buns. It has a certain spicy kick to it, so watch out and get your cup of water ready. We went to Laybrick’s Coffee afterwards and ordered the famous “Apple Pan.” It was delicious, but let’s talk about size. The pan’s diameter could not have been any bigger than my hand spread out. When I ordered an “Apple Pan” I was expecting something along the lines of the size of a fry pan, not a pan for ants. However, I couldn’t stay mad for too long. After taking one bite, I was immediately won over. Not too sweet, the cinnamon-infused apple sauce and oven-baked, warm buttery crumbles on top were completed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the cherry on top of it all.  But because we shared this tiny pan among 3 people, five minutes in, and we killed it.

I guess it’s true that good things come in small packages. IMG_7737 IMG_7740 LOCATION: Gangnam-gu, Sinsadong 555-13 http://map.naver.com/?mid=bl0117167459 STORE HOURS: 11AM-1AM
